cooldown

Since a few days there's a new firmware update out for the fan of the macbook. The mayor changes are, that the fan is running all the time at a very low and quiet level and it kicks in faster already at temperatures above 70°C. So you'll hear the fan now more often, but you have a better feeling that the book doesn't overheat and you can really use it as a laptop (placed on your lap while sitting) again. This means that there is nothing to complain about this thing anymore :-)

things change ...

... and so they did right now. Love comes and goes, but as long as it goes in peace it's okay

The gallery will remain empty for the time being. We found no time to scan the photos and the only digital camera we had with us was broken already on the first day. Perhaps there will be some photos of future events on my page but I promise nothing.

Something really different: I listened to the new selftitled Pearl Jam record and I have to admit that they are back again, at least for me. There are some nice faster songs on it (like "Life Wasted" or "Marker in the Sand") paired with some intoxicating ballads (like "Gone" or "Inside Job") that somehow fit to my current mood.

So much for the moment. Times change too and with those changes the good ones will return. And who doesn't enjoy the fact that one can do nearly everything without having to respect the interests or moods of ones partner (athough I regret no second of the time I wasn't solo)? ;-)

white chocolate

After one month of waiting my MacBook finally arrived on monday. And it was worth it! After having a G**icom Laptop before, which was actually real crap, this MacBook is like a new dimension in mobile computing for me. It is fast, it looks cool, it is leightweight, it is quiet, it is compact and the glossy display really rules. Everyone said it would be more like a mirror but this effect is so marginal that it does not bother. Even in sunlight you can see much more than on the display of the old laptop. The only thing one might complain about is the heat that is produced by the dual core cpu. Under heavy load you can see the temperature rise to about 80°C and the fan might kick in for a short while. But I have no problem with it because my old laptop was even hotter and had no performance.
So as you can see I am really satisified with my MacBook.

The Graspop is also over and it was absolutely cool although the storm at sunday afternoon was a bit frightening but did not last very long. The best bands in my opinion were Moonspell, The Gathering, Opeth, In Flames and Saxon. There will be pictures on this page in the next few weeks. As we have to scan them all in it might take some time ;-)

EDIT: I just recognized that I forgot to mention Alice In Chains. They did a real good performance at the Graspop and also the new singer was really good (although he looks totally different than Layne Staley ;-) ). They played all my favourite songs of them like "Rooster", "Would" or "Down in a Hole". So it payed off to fight for the second row :-)

something wicked this way comes

Last week I ordered my new macbook and it should be here in about the next two weeks. I decided to take the "small" one with a 1,83 Ghz CPU but 2 Gigs of RAM. More processor power isn't really necessary and it might save some battery.  Perhaps I'll write something about it in this log when it has arrived.

As you might have seen, there is a new link in the menu to the left. There is no content yet because it's just some preliminary work for the pictures we will hopefully take at the Graspop next week. By the way, the timetable is out and if you like to have a nice, printable version of it yourself, then just write me a mail and I'll send it to you.

some fruit?

Yesterday the new apple macbook was introduced. I must admit, that I was no fan of apple until now. This thing really has all the stuff that you need for work, studies and some home entertainment. If that wasn't enough it looks very cool (I personally like the black one :-) ). As my birthday is near I really tend to get me one of these. Then I can also finally get rid of my Gericom Laptop, that is just 4 years old but making a noise as if it was from the last millennium ... If I have this thing I'll let you know.

Last month I also passed my first oral diploma examination in theoretical computer science with a grade much better than expected. If the next ones are like that I wouldn't complain :-)

This years festival will again be the Graspop in Dessel.

welcome to www.alex-website.net, rev 7.0

So right now you might be one of the first visitors of this page seeing the new design. After nearly 3 years I managed to make a new design and backend, concentrating on this new weblog. As everyone starts to blog today I thought that I could start it too in order to share my opinions and views with all the visitors of my page and to refresh my english. I chose the name weblog instead of blog, because I once read in an userfriendly comic the nice comment "they took the we out of weblog" and thought that this isn't totally wrong. Most of the blogs are somehow way too egocentric and I didn't like it. Ok, you might claim that a blog is made to share ones personal views and emotions, but as most bloggers are (or want to be...) do-gooders, I pretend to be one, too ;-)

Okay, forget about the sh*t I wrote above. Like or dislike the page. Read what I write here or let it be, and if you like, sign the guestbook.
